Recognizing Exemplary Assessment Practices: 2022 WSU Celebration of Assessment Excellence

On November 8th, the Office of the Provost, Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement (DAESA), and Office of Assessment for Curricular Effectiveness (ACE) hosted the 2022 WSU Celebration of Assessment Excellence, shining a spotlight on good practices in learning outcomes assessment and the efforts of program faculty, faculty assessment coordinators, chairs, and directors, representing diverse undergraduate academic programs and colleges.

WSU System Provost and Executive Vice President Elizabeth Chilton thanked faculty for their efforts in using program assessment to continually update and improve curriculum to support student learning and remarked: “It’s a pleasure to recognize these diverse academic programs and colleges that share a strong commitment to providing high-quality education to WSU’s undergraduate students.”

Interim Vice Provost for Academic Engagement and Student Achievement William B. Davis was delighted to recognize nine WSU undergraduate degree programs for good practices in their assessment of program learning outcomes. Over the past two years, these undergraduate degree programs reported using assessment results from direct measures of program learning outcomes collected near the end of the curriculum to improve curriculum or instruction.

  • Civil Engineering, BS (Tri-Cities)
  • Integrated Plant Sciences, BS
  • Kinesiology, BS
  • Landscape Architecture, BLA
  • Nursing, BS
  • Physics, BS

True to WSU’s land-grant mission, Dr. Davis noted: “Assessment of student learning can provide vital data to help program faculty adjust curriculum and instruction to deliver relevant and powerful learning experiences to all learners.”

Overall, the event’s program illuminated how effective assessment contributes to WSU’s educational quality, student achievement, and land-grant mission in varying disciplines and over multiple campuses.
